The Heart of an Artist
In another time and space, I might have become a conservator, working on archaeological finds from around the world.
I would have traveled extensively, engaging with zeal in the cultures from which the ruins that I had the privilege of befriending emerged. Fluent in a number of languages (Polish for sure–my family’s homeland!) Moving through parts of the world that utilize these native tongues with ease, I’d have made friends with the locals, capturing moments on film, writing and exploring before returning to the home base of my work–a well known conservation space in LA.
When I was not working intently in the lab, you could find me teaching in the museum, so thrilled to discuss found artifacts, and perhaps most fascinating, the purpose of their existence and the way these objects helped create meaning in the lives of the people who used them.
I would have also been musically inclined - did you know? Composing and playing my grand piano at night, in my home by the sea.
I might have lived my art in these times, and it would have delighted my soul.
As it happens, the beginnings of these would-be-memories actually occurred. I remember the sheer excitement of floating through the halls of one of New York’s most esteemed museums where I worked as a Conservation Assistant in my early 20’s, the grand open hall in particular, wondering if I might one day host an event in it’s midst. Alas, that time would never come as I made a pivot in my life soon after, choosing not to move forward with the education required to be in the field.
But I’ll never forget how alive I felt in those halls, or the reverence I experienced in the intimate way I was able to experience so many artists’ works.
Now, I live the artists life through horses, coaching, somatic work, and playing in wordless space. I am a creative in the unspoken, in the language of movement and the body. In the energy that flows between us. I help people read that language, tap into it and add a brilliant layer of insight and information to their already keen senses and abilities.
I am living my art after all. Forever a conservator of what is meaningful and important in the depths of people’s being.
